WHAT IS A COPYWRITER ?

The Copywriter is responsible for crafting impactful concepts and compelling copy across various marketing channels to support both current campaigns and future business endeavors. This includes developing content for video scripts, print advertisements, social media ads, marketing emails, and other digital assets. We are seeking candidates who possess a deep understanding of their target audience and can tailor their writing accordingly. They should have the ability to discern when to employ sophisticated language versus a more lighthearted tone and recognize that long-form and short-form content are equally valuable storytelling tools. This role requires individuals to think beyond individual ad placements or social media posts and consider how ideas can be leveraged across diverse mediums such as digital platforms, radio, email marketing, and point-of-sale materials to create cohesive and impactful campaigns.

1. Copywriter Roles and Functions

  • Collaborate with Art Directors, Strategists, Copywriters and Designers to create compelling deliverables that support both new business development and current client projects.
  • Write copy for broadcast, print, video, social, email and other digital mediums
  • Create original content that is free of plagiarism, including self-editing
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and evolve your work accordingly
  • Maintain strong knowledge of content strategy, design concepts, marketing principles and practices, and the tools and software utilized on the team
  • Pitch work to internal and external business stakeholders
  • Attend informational kick-off meetings to learn the scope and responsibilities of each project
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to create concepts for current and future brand campaigns
  • Develop the skill sets of more junior team members through mentoring
  • Act as a thought leader by continuously identifying and finding solutions for areas of opportunity in the business
  • Quickly adapt and apply writing skills to multiple mediums and various business segments

2. Copywriter Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, public relations, marketing, communications, writing or a related field of study
  • Demonstrated success in proposal writing 
  • Adaptive to changing situations and flexible in juggling priorities
  • Interest in emerging technologies and the new media landscape
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills with an ability to make decisions for the business
  • Team player; ability to work with all business divisions in a proactive manner and drive results
  • Flexible to work through video/conference calls, and sometimes meet at requested hours that may be outside office hours
