WHAT IS AN ACADEMIC COORDINATOR ?

The Academic Coordinator is tasked with monitoring and managing student academic progress by reviewing their academic records and introducing early intervention tactics. The role requires collaboration with students, the Progression Committee, and the Academic Dean to boost academic performance through a cohesive approach. The individual in this position will help students grasp and comply with the University and College of Pharmacy's rules and regulations. By adopting an all-encompassing advisory approach, this role is committed to mentoring, motivating, and aiding students throughout their educational path.

An Overview of Academic Coordinator Job Description Responsibilities and Qualifications

1. Academic Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with students to help set personal academic goals, and to develop academic success plans.
  • Monitor attendance of students with academic deficiency to tutorial programs and pharmacy courses.
  • Assist with the student progression process and ensure students are supported in the program.
  • Advance student retention, on-time graduation in collaboration with the Progression Committee and Academic Dean.
  • Mentor and coach pharmacy students on acclimation to pharmacy school, personal, family, academic and work difficulties. 
  • Partner with students to address barriers to meeting their academic and career goals.
  • Monitor student progress in co-curricular activities
  • Develop and implement retention best practices and innovative student engagement initiatives.
  • Assist the director of assessment in survey design, distribution and data collection.
  • Complete evaluation and assessment reports on student advising and progression
  • Stay abreast on current information on student retention and academic progression strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Office of Student Affairs to implement strategic goals.
  • Meet or exceed academic, assessment and progression performance metrics each academic year.
  • Examsoft monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Assist with proctoring exams as needed

2. Academic Coordinator Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education or equivalent. 
  • Higher education or academic working environment experience. 
  • Experience working with students. 
  • Training in student success and retention.
  • Demonstrated experience in counseling students in the higher education setting and advising students on academic requirements
  • Competence in both oral and written English.
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with a diverse group of constituents.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with students, faculty, staff, university officials and the general public.
