WHAT IS AN ACADEMIC MANAGER ?

The Academic Manager will offer advice and assistance to scholars, helping them navigate any difficulties or issues that may arise throughout their scholarship period. This includes, but is not limited to, matters related to cultural adaptation and urgent health concerns. The responsibilities of this role include responding to questions from scholars regarding their entitlements, obligations, and the rules and regulations of the scholarship program.

Need-to-Know Overview of an Academic Manager

1. Academic Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaises directly with institutions hosting scholarship students.
  • Develops with other Managers required statistical and narrative reports for the Director.
  • Develops/revises content, together with the Manager of Communications/Web, application guidelines, forms, program updated and all other documentation, both print and web-based.
  • Provides information to agencies and diplomatic missions engaged in the programs .
  • Guides the application process including overseeing database development/refinements.
  • Reviews applications and screens for completeness and eligibility, and manages the selection process of applicants.
  • Follows up on the selection and adjudication process, directly communicating applicants
  • With the support of Administrators, maintains and updates scholars’ information in the database.
  • Follow-up with students regarding participation in a co-curricular learning program.

2. Academic Manager Requirements and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Five (5) years relevant work experience including at least two (2) years’ experience in scholarship management.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic, oral and written, with French language skills desirable.
  • Excellent program management skills with emphasis on conceptual, analytical, strategic planning, organizational and financial management skills.
  • Strong writing, presentation and research skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills and capacity to manage complex issues with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, cope with workload pressure and deadlines, and work in a results-based environment.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Access, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with diplomacy, judgement and tact in dealing with clients from different cultures.
  • Client-service orientation and excellent customer service skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the post-secondary education system.
