CFO JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who is instrumental in strategic financial management, steering operations, and directing resource allocation to realize the organization's objectives. 1. Our organization is on the hunt for a Chief Financial Officer with a keen business acumen to drive and shape our financial and business strategies, ensuring they align with our ambitious growth objectives. This role demands a hands-on approach to managing operational financial tasks, including the analysis of productivity and profits to spearhead initiatives that enhance cost-efficiency and bolster profits. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to craft and implement a dynamic strategic growth plan within early-stage, rapidly expanding software or tech-based service companies, demonstrating a commitment to elevating organizational performance and scalability.

Duties of CFO:

  • Lead the Finance department, comprised of local and remote resources
  • Responsible for ensuring that internal and external public reporting requirements are completed accurately and timely to meet filing deadlines
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of the financial statements for review by external auditors, liaising with them during year-end
  • Manage the company's financial planning, including the annual budget process and monthly forecast reviews
  • Responsible for cash management including cash flow, banking/debit, and capital raises
  • Responsible for the review and approval of all capital and significant expenditures
  • Responsible for risk management and internal control policies & documentation 
  • Responsible for developing and enforcing the Financial/Accounting policies and procedures whilst following strong governance and risk management guidelines
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Incentive & Option Plans
  • Identify process improvements and undertake resolutions thereof


Requirements of CFO:

  • University degree in Finance; MBA considered an asset
  • CPA accounting designation required
  • Minimum 10 years experience in: financial management, budgets, taxation and treasury
  • At least 5 years experience in a supervisory/management capacity
  • Experience with a recurring revenue business model is strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • SAP or similar ERP systems experience an asset
  • Excellent analytical, time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions would be an asset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

2. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall financial operations and strategy for this organization and for fostering the professional, honest and prudent use of its resources in carrying out the mission. The Chief Financial Officer is expected to exercise judgment and initiative in performance of day-today functions to work cooperatively with staff, department heads and board of directors. Direct and supervise the monthly financial reporting process, including oversight of all accounting systems and processes, and preparation of monthly financials.

Chief Financial Officer Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and supervise the annual budget process
  • Develop and maintain a 5 Year Model with periodic updates and review
  • Direct and supervise the annual audit by external accounting firm
  • Direct and supervise tax compliance, including review of Form 990
  • Prepare for and lead Finance Committee meetings in association with Chair
  • Establish and maintain cash flow projects for current month and 5-year view
  • Ensure compliance with all debt covenants
  • Establish and maintain proper controls on cash distributions
  • Direct and supervise maintenance of accounting and finance internal controls
  • Participate in strategic planning, executive staff meetings and other ad hoc needs
  • Direct and supervise all corporate insurance coverage matters related to sizing and placing corporate insurance
  • In charge of all banking relationships

Chief Financial Officer Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • CPA preferred Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Chief Financial Officer Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct responsibility for the P&L and the support of the CEO to ensure that the business capitalizes upon its significant growth potential under the PE ownership.
  • Responsible for working alongside the CEO to strengthen and improve the market position & company culture as well as implementing the strategic vision of the group.
  • Charged with shaping the strategic growth agenda for the business and driving best practice improvement across core financial, commercial and operational processes globally.
  • Drive rapid and significant improvements in the commercial functions, leading to step-change in revenue growth and quality.
  • Assess and capitalise on the pricing opportunities that can be created from the typically long term licensing agreements with large multinational customers.
  • Support the CEO in building a culture focused on customer orientation, high growth, detail, good commercial disciplines, outstanding performance, energy and collaboration across the global business.
  • Ensure clear and detailed monthly reporting to the board across strategy, financial performance, operations, sales, product and technology.


Chief Financial Officer Skills, Experience, Qualifications:

  • A highly experienced and international CFO who has had the remit to grow a business in a software environment with significant market coverage, scaling profitability within both a matrixed organization and in a PE-backed organisation.
  • Deep experience of complex software solution sales and account-led growth in an international B2B environment.
  • Successfully undertaken at least one exit in a PE-backed environment.
  • Have extensive experience in: managing balance sheets, budgeting and cash management, managing high growth, managing costs, understanding recurring revenue, undertaking an IFRS15 implementation, managing CAPEX investment and operating a lean company that is metrics- and KPI-driven, with a culture of continuous improvement.
  • A track record of owning full responsibility across: legal, tax, and HR and of leading transformation within organisations.
  • Experience working with venture-backed technology companies
  • Strong understanding of equity and debt financing

4. Reporting directly to the President, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a critical role as a key business advisor within the senior leadership team. Tasked with upholding the integrity of financial reports and records through accuracy, relevance, and timeliness, the CFO also oversees all financial processes. Leading multi-location accounting teams, the CFO ensures optimal use of materials, human resources, and assets across the company. Additionally, they enforce strict internal controls to align with generally accepted accounting principles and safeguard company assets, reinforcing the organization's financial health and compliance.

Chief Financial Officer Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Financial management; financial reporting, budgeting, audit, tax, legal, working capital optimization, treasury/cash and risk management.
  • Existing processes and systems, but when necessary develop and establish new processes and/or systems as business needs require.
  • Included with classic finance and accounting functions, also critical will be a strong operational orientation.
  • Support the President and other senior leaders, focused on improving the performance of the overall business.
  • Expected to work hand in hand with operations leadership to refine the company’s performance metrics and drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for navigating the company’s complex international businesses.
  • Responsible for exchange rate exposures and compliance outside of the U.S. with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for leading by example with strong teamwork within the company’s senior leadership team.
  • Accordingly, the CFO must be able to make his or her case in a strong, fact-based way, but also collaborate effectively with other senior team members.
  • Bring best practices in finance and operational management from his/her previous positions, and effectively introduce them to the organization as appropriate.
  • Responsible for forecasting the intermediate-term liquidity needs and long-term capital requirements of the company and developing strategies that ensure those needs are met while judiciously tracking the company’s financial performance relative to the terms of financing agreements in place.
  • Work closely with all lender relation matters and assist in working directly with banks, investors, and advisors to provide adequate, cost-effective capital solutions to meet the companies and needs.
  • Work closely with the company’s advisors and outside professionals in evaluating and executing potential merger and acquisition activities.
  • Responsible for supporting the deal evaluation and due diligence process as well as post close integration, and ultimate exit.
  • Responsible for maintaining relations with private equity shareholders and other institutional capital stakeholders, including financial institutions.


Chief Financial Officer Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Work history to include a minimum of 15 years relevant experience and a four-year undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, as well as a CPA.
  • While an MBA is not required for this position, it will be a strong differentiation.
  • Manufacturing industry experience to include cost accounting and standards allocation.
  • Strong experience in a manufacturing business, possessing a similar business model, with organizations ranging in size of approximately $100 – 300 million in annual revenue. This work history can be combined with experience in a larger organization.
  • Whether gained in a private equity setting or otherwise, the CFO must possess a private equity mindset, managing the business to the expectations of owners and outside stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of financial compliance requirements and experience implementing and managing financial policies
  • High level of energy and ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic business environments
