Sitting at the intersection of specialized content knowledge and student success services, the Academic Tutor provides synchronous and asynchronous tutoring support for Purdue University Global students across writing, math, science, technology, and business, delivering accurate feedback on paper and project reviews and facilitating group study sessions. Operating across digital platforms, scheduling systems, and institutional outreach channels, the Academic Tutor develops tutorials and reference materials that advance positive student learning experiences and long-term academic achievement.
Areas of Ownership
- Provide a warm, student-empowering learning environment and perform weekly tutoring sessions in accordance with established schedules, academic standards, guidelines, and tutoring policies.
- Deliver accurate, consistent, student-centered feedback promptly and demonstrate a commitment to students with patience and understanding.
- Revise, create, and enhance tutorials, reference materials, and web spaces, and promote center services across the institution as directed.
- Participate in development projects and manage projects in the absence of the Academic Center Specialist.
- Attend department meetings, teleconferences, and training as assigned, engage in approved professional development, and comply with all applicable academic policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master's degree in Composition, English, Writing, Rhetoric, or a related field.
- Practiced knowledge of MS Office and Google Suite, with the ability to manage multiple email accounts and adapt to changing technical demands.
- Familiarity with video creation and editing is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment while maintaining a positive, student-centered atmosphere.
