WHAT IS A DIETARY AIDE ?
As a dedicated member of the food service team, the Dietary Aide plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of daily meal preparations. Taking guidance from both the Manager and Assistant Manager of Dining Services, this position is pivotal in assembling meal trays adhering to the highest standards set by Federal, State, and local regulations. Reporting directly to the dining management team, the Dietary Aide contributes significantly to our commitment to providing exceptional nutritional care and service.

1. Dietary Aide Roles and Responsibilities

- Exhibits ability to work as a team member and to contribute to the realization of team goals.
- Responsible for preparing support items for the center of the plate, such as salads, desserts, and beverages as well as any needed condiments.
- Accurately set up trays on an assembly line for ease in multi-preparations daily.
- Occasionally accepts the responsibility of preparing items for the next meal such as baking of pies and cakes, preparation of gelatin and any other item needed for the meal.
- On occasion required to go into the Main Dining room and serve the Residents in a controlled semi-formal environment.
- Responsible for gathering the needed items for the meal such as beverages, salads, soup and dessert items.
- On occasion required to set up the tables in the main Dining Room prior to meal service using coffee cups, saucers, glasses and silverware.
- Responsible for washing all soiled dishes after the meal.
- Routinely empties trash and refuse in the proper container located in the back parking lot.
- Responsible for all sanitation duties of the Department in order to keep the appearance as well as the environment of the department at acceptable levels, continuously.
- Required to attend all in-services as well as any departmental meetings and to contribute solutions and ideas for the betterment of the department.
2. Dietary Aide Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
- Completion of a Food Safety Training Program or willingness to obtain
- Able to read and write and to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- Physical ability to perform duties of the position
- Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available
- Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
- Experience in institutional food services an asset
