WAS IS A BANK TELLER ?

The Bank Teller will manage the teller window, providing exceptional customer service while handling a variety of routine financial transactions as well as providing solutions to suit customer' s financial needs. Duties will include educating customers on new products and services, as well as recognizing opportunities to make referrals as appropriate.

1. Bank Teller Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive checks and cash for deposits to accounts, verify amounts, examine checks for endorsement/authenticity, and process deposits
  • Cash checks and process withdrawals, paying out money after verification of identity, signatures and customer balances
  • Receive mortgage, consumer loan and other payments and ensure the payments match balances due
  • Process payments into the system and generates customer receipts
  • Provide additional customer services including Official Checks, Gift/Travel Cards, Savings Bonds redemption, etc.
  • Responsible for checking night depository bags and recording proper information on the financial institution s forms
  • Properly maintain teller cash drawer limits
  • Balance cash drawer at the end of the shift and compare totaled amounts to computer generated proof sheet
  • Report any discrepancies to the supervisor
  • Ensure that the teller station is neat and properly stocked with forms, supplies, etc.
  • Makes concentrated effort to solve customer problems
  • Promote and maintain positive relations with all contacts, customers and potential customers
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Promote and introduce other financial institution products and services to customers

2. Bank Teller Skills, Experience, Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Above average computer and technology skills, and the ability to use applicable software systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Resolve customer concerns/issues in a positive way
  • Successful completion of in-house training programs or other approved training programs for paying and receiving function
  • Understand and use Bank policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance
  • Work with confidential information appropriately
  • Communicate positively and effectively in one-on-one settings
  • Work with limited or no direct supervision
  • Think and act within guidelines and limitations of Bank policy and assigned personal authority
  • Organized, detailed, and possess an aptitude for basic math
  • Comfortable primarily standing during the entire shift
  • Comfortable with frequent movement between different workstations during the workday
