• Providing broad-based EH&S consulting services related to workplace safety, hazardous waste and hazardous materials management.
• Maintaining work activities and client relationships, developing new opportunities.
• Conducting inspections and audits of client facilities to identify safety, health or environmental issues and recommending appropriate corrective or preventive actions.
• Developing and providing employee training for safety and environmental topics.
• Preparing permits or regulatory documents and assisting with regulatory agency inspections
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including health & safety representatives, varied workgroups, customer representatives and sub-contractors including deployment of the stakeholder management plan.
• Coach and deploy the principles of risk management.
• Coach and enable the business to understand and manage relevant risks through use of tools such as risk workshops and risk registers.
• Support the implementation and improvement of the EHS Management System in accordance with the relevant requirements, standards and regulations.
• Lead Assurance activity across the business in accordance with business requirements.
• Apply insecticides and pesticides to minimize nuisances
• Provide quality control of inspection documentation
• Act as liaison to external and internal teams

Job Summary:

• Works to reduce risks of injury and to prevent the initiation and spread of communicable and non-communicable diseases by means of investigation, education, and enforcement of established codes, policies, procedures and sanitation practices. 
• Works cooperatively with the Health District team, private sector partners, and local governments to plan and implement public risks and support positive public and environmental health outcomes.
• Responsibilities will include work in the VDH Soils Program and VDH Food and General Environmental Health Programs. 
• Focus on health protection through education and enforcement of Virginia environmental health laws and regulations.
• Evaluating applications for conventional and alternative onsite sewage disposal systems and private wells, performing site and soil evaluations, review of private onsite soil evaluator submittals and engineered plans.
• Monitor and conduct comprehensive/follow-up inspections to determine compliance with State and local regulations
• Respond to citizens' complaints using appropriate investigative skills and office procedures
• Ensure violations are documented thoroughly, accurately, and legibly using the Health Department's codes and forms
• Conduct change of ownership inspections and remodel inspections using appropriate regulations and investigative skills to assess new facilities and/or equipment for use
• Ensure correspondence to the facility's owner or management is accurate and timely
• Verify/track the status of compliance inspections, new facilities, and change(s) in ownership are maintained
