Advertising Specialist Job Description Template
1. About the Role
An Advertising Specialist manages the full paid media workload: campaigns go live, budgets get spent against targets, and ROAS numbers land on client dashboards. Without someone in this seat making daily bid adjustments and reading performance data against conversion goals, spend accumulates without direction and clients lose confidence fast. The role sits inside a marketing or agency team, owning paid search, paid social, display, and retargeting channels across multiple client accounts or internal business lines. Platform certifications such as Google Ads and Meta Blueprint are standard entry expectations, and performance is measured against cost-per-acquisition and return-on-ad-spend benchmarks that reset every reporting cycle.
2. Position Summary
As the Advertising Specialist, you own the setup, optimization, and performance reporting of paid media campaigns spanning search, social, display, and retargeting channels, translating client or business objectives into channel strategies that hit defined ROAS and CPA targets. You work within a marketing or agency team, collaborating daily with account managers, content and creative teams, and analytics stakeholders to keep campaigns on budget and performing against agreed benchmarks.
3. Why Join Us
Career Impact: Hands-on ownership of multi-channel paid media campaigns across real client portfolios builds the kind of measurable results record that advances careers toward Senior Specialist or Media Strategist roles within three to five years.
Business Impact: The paid advertising budgets this role manages are the primary lever for client revenue growth and brand visibility, meaning well-run campaigns directly affect client retention and account expansion.
Growth Opportunity: Exposure to paid search, paid social, programmatic, and attribution modeling in a single role expands your technical scope faster than single-channel positions, opening paths into media strategy, performance marketing leadership, or account management.
4. Key Responsibilities
- Own paid search, paid social, display, and retargeting campaigns for assigned accounts, ensuring alignment with client goals and budget parameters.
- Monitor campaign performance daily, adjusting bids, targeting, and creative rotation to maintain impression share and hit CPA targets.
- Develop and execute A/B tests across ad copy, audience segments, landing pages, and visual assets to improve conversion rates.
- Analyze performance data across channels and produce clear reports for account managers and clients on a weekly and monthly cadence.
- Build and refine audience segments including custom, lookalike, and retargeting pools to improve targeting precision.
- Coordinate with creative and content teams to brief and deliver ad assets that meet channel specifications and campaign objectives.
- Conduct keyword research and competitive analysis to identify growth opportunities within active and prospective accounts.
- Support campaign budget forecasting and reconcile monthly spend against approved allocations.
Hiring teams weigh ROAS results heavily, so presenting campaign duties on a resume shows the right framing for those expectations.
5. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communications, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 2 or more years of paid digital advertising experience, with direct ownership of campaigns in at least two paid channels.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret campaign performance data and translate findings into actionable optimization decisions.
- Proven experience managing advertising budgets, pacing spend to monthly targets, and reconciling actuals against forecasts.
- Working knowledge of audience segmentation strategies including custom audiences, lookalike modeling, and retargeting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present performance results clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts or campaigns simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting reporting deadlines.
- Solid analytical and numerical aptitude, including comfort working with large data sets in spreadsheet environments.
Paid social and search are now expected together, and advertising specialist skills employers screen for maps how those requirements cluster.
6. Preferred Qualifications
- Google Ads or Meta Blueprint certification held at time of application, with commitment to maintaining active status.
- Experience with programmatic advertising channels including display, video, or audio buying through a demand-side platform.
- Familiarity with conversion tracking implementation and troubleshooting, including pixel-based and server-side methods.
- Prior agency experience managing five or more concurrent client accounts across different verticals.
7. Success Metrics & Environment
- Cost-per-acquisition (CPA) vs. target, measured per campaign and account on a weekly basis.
- Return on ad spend (ROAS) against client-approved benchmarks, reported monthly with variance commentary.
- Impression share percentage across paid search campaigns, tracked against monthly budget utilization.
- A/B test velocity: number of active experiments running per account per month, with documented outcomes.
- Campaign pacing accuracy: actual monthly spend as a percentage of approved budget, targeting within 5%.
- Typical tools: paid search platforms (commonly Google Ads or Microsoft Ads); paid social platforms (commonly Meta Ads Manager); analytics (commonly Google Analytics).
Mapping Google Ads and Meta Blueprint certification requirements to salary benchmarks for this career frames the long-term picture.
8. Compensation & Benefits (US Market Benchmark)
- Base Salary Range: $52,000 to $72,000 annually, depending on experience and market.
- Bonus: Performance-based bonus of 5% to 10% of base, tied to account and campaign KPIs.
