WHAT IS A CATEGORY MANAGER ?

The Category Manager is to drive brand performance in the category by understanding the market opportunity for growth, competitive dynamics, consumer insights and leveraging the commercial performance of our client's portfolio. Develops consumer activation plans that drive brand awareness and preference working with channel marketing and channel sales heads across digital, in-store and CRM touchpoints ensuring successful execution on time and to budget.

1. Category Manager Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develops category and competitor insights by assimilating data from multiple sources
  • Distills clear and concise analysis of market opportunities and brand performance in order to formulate and implement competitively advantaged growth plans.
  • Identifies and rigorously applies consumer and customer insights to drive growth
  • Develops category strategy and annual budget to allocate resources against the identified opportunities and consumer insights and activation requirements.
  • Identifies optimal brand positioning and selling propositions that are relevant, differentiated and win in market.
  • Optimises portfolio sku range, pricing and promotion support for value, growth and efficiency. 
  • Proactively identifies opportunities and issues with recommendations for action.
  • Holistic understanding of their own and neighboring areas of marketing
  • Constantly develops in-depth knowledge of the issues and problems relevant for category area
  • Sets and delivers challenging targets and does not lose sight of goals, even in difficult situations

2. Category Manager Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant experience at Category Manager Level within strong branded companies (e.g. strategic brand and budget planning, consumer campaigns, team management etc.) in a matrix structure
  • Demonstrable experience of working across markets in collaboration with central functions (e.g. global categories, communications and digital)
  • Cross-functional team working
  • Business and Financial Planning experience
  • Domestic home appliances experience would be beneficial
  • Managing communication campaigns
  • Channel Distribution and experience of working with major retailers
  • People management experience
