Channel Manager Job Description Template
1. About the Role
A Channel Manager who cannot read sell-out data or forecast distributor stock accurately leaves brand teams flying blind into quarterly reviews. This role owns the commercial relationship between a manufacturer's portfolio and the trade channels that move it - tracking weekly sell-out performance, leading NPI launches, and ensuring in-store execution meets both volume and margin targets. The work requires equal comfort with a distributor order meeting and a senior brand review. Channel Managers in FMCG typically answer to a National Sales or Commercial Director, and their output directly shapes market share in the categories they manage.
2. Position Summary
As the Channel Manager, you translate brand and commercial strategy into measurable sell-out results across a defined set of trade channels and distributor relationships, owning volume, gross margin, and market share targets for the assigned portfolio. You work alongside supply, demand planning, and marketing teams, with performance reviewed against monthly forecast accuracy and in-store execution KPIs.
3. Why Join Us
Career Impact: Owning a full channel P&L in FMCG builds the commercial and forecasting credibility that progression into National Account Manager or Head of Channel roles requires.
Business Impact: Distributors and trade customers depend on this role for order accuracy, stock management, and activation plans that translate brand investment into shelf availability and shopper conversion.
Growth Opportunity: Exposure to NPI launch mechanics, distributor DSS systems, and cross-functional brand planning expands a candidate's scope from field execution toward strategic commercial leadership.

- Lead NPI launches across the channel through multi-functional coordination, including sell-in planning, in-store visibility, and post-launch tracking.
- Drive in-store execution standards by monitoring product availability, shelf compliance, and promotional effectiveness across trade accounts.
- Deliver sell-in proposals to distributors and trade customers that optimize forecast accuracy and portfolio accessibility.
- Coordinate distributor order management, aged stock reviews, and claims resolution as the primary operative contact.
