WHAT IS A CIVIL ENGINEER ?
As the principal Civil Engineer spearheading our land development initiatives, you will navigate projects from inception to fruition, ensuring all requisite permits are secured. Your expertise will be applied across a diverse array of projects, encompassing both residential and commercial realms, regardless of scale. This full-time role demands a comprehensive skill set to effectively cater to the needs of both public and private sectors while also lending support to our internal land surveying team. The ideal candidate is adept at collaborative efforts within a compact office environment, leveraging their broad experience to drive project success.
Need-to-Know Overview of a Civil Engineer
1. Civil Engineer Duties and Roles
- Act as the project engineer and project manager for land use and development projects in a dynamic and fast pace work environment
- Meet with clients to review project design requirements and possible use
- Design the most optimal project for the client, while meeting all required regulations, efficiently and under budget
- Design commercial and residential site plans for permitting and construction
- Design roads, drainage, and sewerage systems for new developments. Design septic systems.
- Produce high-quality designs including plans and profiles in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Be capable of meeting the client’s needs in an efficient and cost-effective manner
- Work in a team environment with the land surveyors and engineers. Give direction and guidance to newer engineers
- Ensure work product is complete and accurate meeting all relevant requirements
- File applications and permits and attend public hearings for land use projects
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver projects on time and on budget
- Capable of thinking analytically and critically
- Represent the company in a professional manner at public meetings
2. Civil Engineer Experience and Capabilities
- Bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering and EIT, minimum of 2 years’ experience as a design and project engineer
- Professional Engineer (PE) in Massachusetts is a plus
- Must have experience designing and permitting land development projects in AutoCAD Civil 3D, both commercial and residential
- Experienced at performing stormwater modeling analysis using Hydro Cad or similar product
- Proficient in road and drainage design and stormwater management
- Experienced with Ma. title 5 requirements and septic design
- A soil evaluators license in Massachusetts is a plus
- Must have 5 plus years of experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to design projects
- Experience attending public hearings at the City and Town level
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Be able to work cohesively in a team environment
- Self-sufficient person who can be relied on to follow through on assigned tasks
- Must maintain a valid driver license and have a good driving record
- Must be proficient in the English language, both spoken and written and possess strong communication skills
