As the Civil Design Engineer, this role advances facility-level design and analysis of solar PV and battery energy storage systems, managing grading, foundation design, structural calculations, and QA/QC reviews across the full design and construction lifecycle. The engineering and design team relies on this work to coordinate multi-discipline design packages, review vendor drawings, and ensure successful construction and energization of utility-scale and commercial renewable energy projects.

Scope of Work

• Organize, review, interpret, and execute project pursuit and design packages in coordination with other engineering and design team members.
• Manage all aspects of design including grading, structure design verification, plan and profile drawings, foundation design, material and construction specifications, and associated calculations.
• Analyze applicable studies including topography surveys, geotechnical reports, environmental impact surveys, corrosion analysis, and hydrology reports.
• Develop and optimize design concepts for solar PV and BESS systems, including field construction means and methods.
• Develop and update civil/structural engineering calculation tools to size equipment and materials based on project requirements.
• Review and approve material specifications and equipment vendor drawings from manufacturers.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews for completeness and accuracy of internal and external design documents, and perform site visits to verify construction conforms to engineering drawings.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, Project Managers, Directors, and Operations personnel to successfully deliver design projects.

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program preferred.
• 5 to 10 years of related work experience, including experience with utility-scale or commercial-scale renewable EPC projects.
• Competency in civil/structural system sizing, independent engineering, and analysis of operational project data and performance.
• Knowledge of power and distribution systems.
• Familiarity with renewable energy equipment mounting and installation.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, AutoCAD 2D, Blue Beam, L-pile, Google Earth, Risa, and other web-based engineering applications.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a fast-moving environment.

Civil Design Engineer oversees capital project civil and structural design for chemical process and petrochemical industrial facilities, directing outsourced engineering contractors and developing corporate standards for the Asia Pacific region against GB, JB, and international codes. Success in the position means delivering accurate, compliant design packages across plant layout, civil construction, and specification work while recruiting, training, and guiding discipline engineering personnel.

Work Activities

• Provide proactive engineering input to capital project scope, budget, and schedule development.
• Work with design and drafting teammates to develop and maintain design packages that are accurate, workable, economical, and compliant with all pertinent standards, codes, and specifications.
• Provide independent guidance and oversight of outsourced capital project detailed design activities and monitor contractor progress against schedule.
• Provide discipline-specific technical advice to construction management personnel to assure safe and accurate installation of project assets.
• Maintain project documentation and design requirements documentation related to outsourced detailed design engineering.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and corporate HS&E policies to support technical problem solving and failure analysis.
• Direct and supervise engineering contractors in the detailed design of capital projects, and recruit, develop, and train discipline engineering personnel.
• Guide development of corporate specifications and standards for the Asia Pacific region, including gap assessment against EPC and China Guobiao codes, and provide training to employees on standards usage.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• National or professional engineering registration preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in the Chemical Process Industry or a similar industry.
• Significant experience in plant layout, civil/structural construction, and specification, design, and maintenance of industrial chemical or petrochemical processing facilities.
• Knowledge of China-based engineering code requirements and standards, including GB and JB codes.
• Understanding of international Civil/Structural engineering standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, and Excel.
• Fluent written and spoken Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Independent self-starter with strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to travel to domestic and international plant sites.
