Reporting to senior leadership and developing direct reports within the unit, this role secures funding, provides technical governance across all programmes and projects, and positions the organisation as a global leader in engineering excellence through world-class collaborative research and development.
Strategic Initiatives
- Support the development of the Digital Engineering capability as part of future national and regional initiatives.
- Help secure future funding and deliver major programmes of collaborative research and development within the domain of Digital Engineering.
- Provide technical governance and act as technical authority and independent reviewer for all programmes and projects within the sector.
- Ensure Digital Engineering programme and project scope and deliverables meet customer requirements and expectations.
- Lead the technical strategy for the Digital Engineering business unit in coordination with the CTO and Head of Digital, working with Value Stream Managers, customers, and wider industry to formulate and deliver technical roadmaps.
- Provide the technical interface with industrial members within the sector, ensuring that short- and long-term product and industrial requirements are captured and understood.
- Define the technical direction for the sector by formulating and maintaining sector technology roadmaps in line with customer and wider industry demand, and develop direct reports within the business unit.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master's degree in Engineering (Computer Science, Electrical, or Mechanical), Mathematics, or other relevant discipline.
- Significant relevant experience working within the digital industry.
- Strong knowledge and experience of engineering processes.
- Experience of people management.
- Significant experience of providing technical governance and leadership to engineering programmes.
- Experience of managing time, cost, and quality in engineering projects.
- Excellent knowledge in the Digital Engineering field.
- Track record of carrying out world-class innovative research and development programmes.
- Experience of writing technical proposals for funding bodies such as TSB, EPSRC, and EU Frameworks.
- Broad knowledge of design, manufacturing, and verification and validation methods.
