Core Responsibilities

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Design, Textile Design, or Fine Arts.
• 5 or more years in Textile CAD Design.
• Experience coordinating with external contractors and print studios.
• High proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, NedGraphics, or equivalent proprietary textile design software.
• Strong understanding of repeat patterns, screen printing, and impact on raw materials.
• Experience spanning multiple apparel categories and genders, with experience collaborating on a creative apparel strategy.
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to story-tell through design, and a progressive portfolio embodying the creative process.
• Mac and PC proficient preferred.

Embedded within a telecom design team, the CAD Designer produces permit drawings, civil drawings, and fiber optic network designs for diverse municipal and private clients, collaborating with Engineering and Aerial departments to meet agency requirements and local encroachment permit standards. Working closely with the Fielding department and planning staff, this role researches utility data and interprets survey information to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance across all deliverables.

Primary Duties

• Create permit drawings in accordance with local municipal rules and conduct utility research using tools such as Google Earth and various GIS software.
• Collaborate with other departments to effectively design fiber optic networks for various client needs.
• Create and revise civil drawings within public right-of-way or per agency requirements.
• Research building data, state and local code requirements, and interpret survey data for accuracy and verification.
• Design traffic control plans for custom and typical requirements in accordance with WATCH and MUTCD standards.

Technical Qualifications

• AA Degree in Engineering Technology and Drafting, or equivalent combination of education and recent CAD experience.
• Minimum 2 or more years of AutoCAD experience and 1 or more years of experience drafting traffic control plans.
• Thorough understanding and experience in the Outside Plant telecom industry, public right-of-way, and existing utilities.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, base-mapping, and fundamental knowledge of running line, conduit, cable design fiber optics, manholes, and hand holes.
• Experience reading parcel maps, utility prints, and as-builts, with knowledge of encroachment permits, traffic control permits, and environmental permits highly desired.
• Strong MS Office skills including Outlook and Word.
• Strong analytical skills, teamwork capabilities, and communication skills with the ability to work independently.

Sitting at the intersection of electrical systems engineering and BIM coordination, the CAD Designer builds 2D and 3D AutoCAD layouts of electrical systems in conjunction with architectural and structural models, producing fully coordinated Revit models and pre-fabricated electrical components for on-site installation. Operating across fabrication shop, engineering, and site installation teams, this role advances BIM and CAD best practices through documented procedures, quality assurance activities, and knowledge communication that keep complex electrical projects on schedule.

Delivery Expectations

• Prepare and produce 2D and 3D AutoCAD layouts of electrical systems in BIM and CAD, in conjunction with provided architectural and structural models.
• Work in Revit and CAD to produce required 3D coordinated models.
• Pre-fabricate electrical components in the fabrication shop for install on site.
• Follow BIM, Revit, and CAD standards, producing procedures and guidelines.
• Conduct routine quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure adherence to established standards.
• Create, document, and communicate BIM and CAD best practices.

Background and Experience

• Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, or a diploma in a CAD design program including Design and Drafting.
• 5 or more years of experience in CAD Design.
• Certifications in AutoCAD preferred.
• Technical aptitude with a background in AutoCAD, CADmep, RevitMEP, and NavisWorks, with strong background in Revit required.
• Knowledge of electrical code and constructability of electrical services on site.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and schedules.
• Strong time management skills with a focus on multiple hard deadlines.

Reporting to internal engineers and design managers, the CAD Designer produces AutoCAD-based land development plan sets covering retail, commercial, industrial, and residential site projects for Fortune 500 clients and regional developers, including Construction Documents, Zoning Plans, and Site Plan Renderings for municipal presentations. Partnering with Engineers, Designers, and Drafters throughout the design process, this role ensures drawings meet company and industry standards while earthwork analysis and third-party application outputs are completed within scope and schedule.

Areas of Ownership

• Plan and prepare preliminary layouts and detailed design drawings from engineering notes, sketches, and other drawings, ensuring they meet company and industry standards and codes.
• Draft Land Development Plans, Zoning Plans, Concept Plans, and Construction Documents.
• Draft Site Plan Renderings for Municipal Presentations.
• Work closely with Engineers, Designers, and other Drafters to ensure coordination of design effort.
• Complete earthwork analysis including cut and fill takeoffs, and utilize third-party applications like AutoTURN and AGI32 to generate drawings based on specific project requirements.
• Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma required, Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer and drafter curriculum.
• 3 or more years of experience using AutoCAD 2014 or higher in the area of site development.
• Land Development Design experience and knowledge of Civil 3D a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task with respect to projects, CAD standards, and deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work as a team player.
