Effective delivery of classroom AV and media production at the university level depends on the AV Engineer, who oversees diagnostic maintenance, system design, and daily monitoring of multi-facility classroom and conference room technologies across a higher education environment. Serving as the point person for assigned facilities while collaborating with desktop support, vendors, and contractors, the AV Engineer develops documentation, supports live events, and keeps AV infrastructure aligned with evolving teaching and learning technologies.

Role Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic maintenance on classroom equipment including matrix switchers, control systems, cameras, monitors, and computers.
• Maintain multimedia laboratory equipment including recorders and microphones.
• Participate in the planning, design, and daily monitoring of multi-facility technologies and classroom systems.
• Participate in the review of project specifications including layouts, workflows, and interfaces with vendors and contractors.
• Work in conjunction with desktop support as the point person for assigned facilities.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of media production and awareness of evolving teaching and learning technologies.
• Develop and maintain documentation for all classrooms, conference rooms, and research laboratories containing AV equipment.
• Support live events for the Dean's Office as needed.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in media design, production, or engineering, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 5 or more years of related professional experience, with 7 to 10 years preferred.
• Experience in a higher education environment preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of complex classroom systems and active learning environments.
• Experience with media streaming and video conferencing solutions.
• Experience in AV system design and management.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining prioritization and focus.
• Ability to translate technical terms to end-users and maintain effective working relationships across the organization.
• Outstanding customer-service orientation and excellent problem-solving ability.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

As the AV Engineer, this role advances the full lifecycle of video teleconferencing systems for a DoD organization, encompassing evaluation, design, installation, testing, maintenance, and upgrade of VTC equipment while ensuring compliance with DoD frameworks, including AR 25-1 and DISA STIGs. The AV and VTC Engineering team relies on this work to maintain classified and unclassified IP videoconferencing environments, resolve system operational problems, and deliver client consulting and training on AV and VTC equipment.

Delivery Expectations

• Evaluate, design, document, install, implement, test, maintain, and upgrade video teleconferencing equipment systems.
• Perform site surveys, generate Bills of Materials, and lead integration, testing, and installation of new facilities.
• Develop and implement metrics capture, quality control, and quality assurance processes and procedures.
• Draft Standard Operating Procedures for VTC Engineering operations.
• Perform equipment custodian duties including inventory asset management and accountability functions.
• Conduct connection testing and troubleshoot VTC systems for DoD operations.
• Monitor and track system performance and usage.
• Repair, replace, or reprogram faulty equipment as required.
• Provide client consulting and training on control, interfaces, and use of AV and VTC equipment.
• Record labor hours daily in the corporate system and complete all required annual training.

Qualifications & Experience

• Associate degree in Information Technology or related field, or high school diploma with 4 or more additional years of IT or helpdesk support experience.
• CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ certification required within 6 months of hire.
• 4 or more years of relevant AV and VTC work experience.
• Experience in configuring and maintaining Extron, Crestron, AMX, and Cisco UC and VTC technologies.
• Knowledge of DoD compliance frameworks, including AR 25-1, DoD PAM 25-91, DISA STIGs, and DITSCAP/85002 IA controls.
• Experience with IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, TCP/IP, QoS, ISDN, SIP, H323, H320, H460, TLS, RTP, SRTP, and UDP protocols.
• Experience with multi-security classified and unclassified IP video teleconferencing environments.
• Knowledge of TIA cabling standards, PKI, and commercial construction methods.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to multi-task in a high-stress environment.
