1. A Political Law Attorney will collaborate closely with the firm’s compliance team, including attorneys and analysts, to provide strategic counsel on political law matters and support clients in navigating federal, state, and local lobbying and campaign finance compliance requirements.
Political Law Attorney Responsibilities:
- Research and analyze relevant political laws, rules and regulations, including campaign finance, lobby, gifts and governmental ethics laws, including the assessment of options and associated risks.
- Advise clients regarding campaign finance laws at the state and local levels, including service as counsel and professional treasurer for federal and state PACs, as well as ballot measure committees.
- Provide counsel regarding government ethics laws at the federal, state and local level, including government gifting, conflicts of interest provisions and revolving door restrictions.
- Assist clients with the design and implementation of lobby, campaign finance, and government ethics compliance programs customized to the organizational structure and tailored to integrated into company culture.
- Counsel business entities, non-profit organizations and individuals on “pay-to-play” law restrictions and disclosures, including the development of programs to ensure compliance.
- Represent clients with political law enforcement matters and audits before the Federal Election Commission and California state and local ethics commissions, including the California Fair Political Practices Commission.
Political Law Attorney Qualifications:
- Strong organization and prioritization skills and the ability to manage time-sensitive matters.
- Superior research and writing skills. Attention to detail is essential.
- Fluency in standard MS Office applications.
- JD licensed to practice law in California required;
- Two years prior government, compliance, legal or political law experience preferred.
