Associate Broker Job Description Template
1. About the Role
An Associate Broker who cannot read a policy form or negotiate a binder leaves accounts exposed and carriers unwilling to quote. That gap between raw submission and bound coverage is exactly what this role is built to close. The Associate Broker handles the placement workflow for commercial property and casualty accounts, from evaluating retail submissions and preparing market documents to securing quotes and tracking binder receipt, all within a licensed brokerage environment that requires active P&C credentials. Hard. Relentlessly detail-dependent. This is the role where commercial insurance careers are built.
2. Position Summary
As the Associate Broker, you manage the end-to-end placement process for commercial P&C accounts, preparing submissions, negotiating terms with carriers, and maintaining compliance with state licensing requirements and brokerage procedures. You work alongside senior brokers and interact directly with retail agents and insurance carriers to ensure accounts are placed accurately and renewals are handled on time.
3. Why Join Us
Career Impact: Hands-on exposure to D&O, EPL, excess liability, and multi-line commercial placements accelerates your technical depth in ways that generalist insurance roles cannot, building the carrier relationships that define a broker's long-term market reputation.
Business Impact: Retail agents and commercial clients depend on accurate submissions and timely binder delivery to keep their coverage in force; errors or delays at this stage can leave accounts unbound at renewal.
Growth Opportunity: Associate Brokers who master the submission-to-binding workflow and obtain their full P&C license are positioned to step into full Broker roles with their own book of business and carrier negotiating authority.
4. Key Responsibilities
