Assistant Financial Accountant Job Description Template

1. About the Role

General ledger ownership at month-end is deceptively precise work. An Assistant Financial Accountant prepares journal entries, maintains balance sheet reconciliations, and keeps the close timetable moving across multiple reporting entities; any one gap misses the consolidated submission deadline for corporate headquarters. This role typically operates within a finance function that reports to GAAP, IFRS, or local statutory frameworks simultaneously, often while supporting SOX-compliant internal control procedures. The position suits someone building systematic technical depth before stepping into a full Financial Accountant seat.

2. Position Summary

As the Assistant Financial Accountant, you will own month-end close deliverables, balance sheet reconciliations, and compliance-focused reporting across multiple legal entities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger within agreed timetables. The role sits within the wider finance function, working alongside senior Financial Accountants, FP&A teams, and Shared Service Centre partners, with scope spanning both statutory and management reporting obligations.

3. Why Join Us

Career Impact: Sustained exposure to SOX controls, IFRS standards, and multi-entity consolidation builds the technical accounting record that hiring managers look for when selecting candidates for Financial Accountant and Finance Manager appointments.

Business Impact: Accurate month-end close and clean balance sheet reconciliations feed directly into the consolidated group accounts that auditors, corporate headquarters, and board-level stakeholders rely on for decisions.

Growth Opportunity: The breadth of this role, covering VAT compliance, intercompany accounting, and statutory accounts preparation, accelerates progression toward a Chartered Accountant qualification and opens doors to senior reporting or business partnering roles.

4. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, and prepayments to complete the month-end close position within the group reporting timetable.
