Job Summary: 

• Serving on the Mars Public Engagement team, primarily responsible for writing and supporting the Mars websites
• Writing public-friendly articles for the Mars websites involves transforming science and technology information into material suitable for readers, including those at an eighth-grade level
• Editing, organizing, and implementing the presentation of web content through a wide variety of technologies using software for graphics, animation, text, multimedia, dynamic, and/or interactive content presentation
• Analyzing web and social media trends and working closely with the manager for Mars Public Engagement to advance NASA/JPL's public-facing Mars products and comply with NASA’s communications strategy
• Interviewing subjects in person, over the telephone, or via computer and email
• Researching written materials, graphic and photographic materials, as well as audio and video recordings
• Quickly and accurately reports information, either verbally or electronically, for publication
• Helping produce photographs and graphics that would help support stories
• Working closely with other Mars Public Engagement team members, as well as scientists and technologists, to create highly complex and high-visibility communication products for general audiences
• Analyzing and planning highly complex content required for communication products
• Helping maintain the currency and factual accuracy of content on the Mars websites
• Helping maintain Mars Public Engagement social media accounts, which include responding to questions and requests
• Corresponding with Mars scientists and subject matter experts to resolve questions or supply additional background information for content on the Mars sites
• Providing booth support and networking with the wider Mars science community, and public engagement events
• Helping with writing for the Mars monthly newsletter
