Clinic Manager Job Description Template
1. About the Role
A Clinic Manager in outpatient healthcare owns something few operational roles do: both the people and the numbers, simultaneously. Staff schedules, physician credentialing timelines, and monthly budget-versus-actual comparisons all land on the same desk. Across primary care, urgent care, and multi-specialty ambulatory settings, this manager is the person physicians and regional leadership turn to when compliance metrics slip or patient throughput stalls. OSHA adherence, insurance plan administration spanning HMO, PPO, Medicare, and Medicaid, and continuous quality improvement are the recurring demands that define the work.
2. Position Summary
As the Clinic Manager, you direct the operational and financial performance of an outpatient clinic, overseeing staff management, regulatory compliance, and patient experience from daily huddles through annual budget planning. The role sits within a physician-led or regionally governed structure, answering to operations or medical leadership while managing a multidisciplinary team of clinical and administrative staff.
3. Why Join Us
Career Impact: Managing a clinic with full accountability for physician credentialing, payer compliance, and staff performance builds the operational credentials that distinguish candidates for regional director and multi-site healthcare executive roles.
Business Impact: When scheduling gaps go unfilled or billing workflows break down, patient access and collections both suffer - the Clinic Manager is the person who keeps those two outcomes intact across every shift.
Growth Opportunity: The skill set this role demands - financial management, continuous quality improvement, and multi-disciplinary team leadership - maps directly to the qualifications employers list for Healthcare Administrator and Practice Director openings.
