An Overview of Child Care Job Description Responsibilities and Qualifications
1. The Child Care Aide supports daily classroom operations for children in a child care setting, maintaining a safe, positive, and engaging environment through active supervision, curriculum support, classroom organization, and compliance with child care standards and caregiver guidelines.

2. The Child Care Assistant supports early childhood programs for assigned age groups, partnering with teaching staff to deliver developmentally appropriate activities, maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment, and promote positive social and emotional growth for children.
Child Care Assistant Duties:
- Assists in conducting a daily program appropriate to age group served, intended to provide developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences for children.
- Keep informed and abreast of research and new developments in Early Childhood.

- Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card

3. The Child Care Attendant supports infant and toddler care programs within the child care center, assisting with daily caregiving, developmental activities, family engagement, and classroom operations to promote a safe, nurturing, and developmentally supportive environment for children and adolescent parents.
Child Care Attendant Responsibilities:
- Monitor the growth and development of the infants and toddlers under the supervision of the Child Care Specialist
- Maintain records on the growth and development of the infants/toddlers
- Assist in food preparation and feeding of the infants during their assignment to the Center
- Diaper and feed infants as necessary
- Report any indication of adverse health problems to Child Care Specialist

Child Care Attendant Knowledge and Requirements:
- Considerable knowledge of the school system and its resources
- Possess strong leadership and planning abilities
- Knowledge of relevant Board of Education, Missouri State and Federal Regulation
- Demonstrated capabilities in oral and written communications
- Experience working with infants/toddlers and adolescent parents (required)
- Two (2) years' experience as a childcare provider (preferred)

- 60 College Credit hours; minimum of nine (9) college credit hours in early childhood, child development, youth development, child/family related courses or current CDA (required)

4. The Child Care Coordinator drives family child care provider recruitment, program compliance, and family support services, partnering with providers and families to ensure children receive safe, developmentally appropriate care aligned with state regulations and organizational standards.
Child Care Coordinator Functions:
- Recruit screen and recommend potential Family Child Care Providers for contracts with Nurtury’s Family Child Care Program.
- Perform intake and regular assessment of services plan with dated goals and objectives for all assigned customers (children and families). Assure service plans are carried out in a timely fashion.
- Provide or arrange for pre-service and in-service orientation training of assigned Family Child Care Providers.
- Regularly monitor and evaluate Family Child Care Providers for full compliance with all government and Nurtury regulations, policies and procedures.
- Maintain and submit in a timely fashion written reports and records as required.
- Refer customers (children and parents) to appropriate resources in an effective and timely fashion.
- Supervise contracted Family Child Care Providers, volunteers, students, interns, and work placement personnel, as assigned.
- Coordinate placement of children in Family Child Care Provider’s homes.
- Identify and coordinate the training needs of assigned Providers.
- Perform developmental intake of new children and the updating of applicable information for enrolled children in according with state and Nurtury guidelines.
Child Care Coordinator Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or related human service field
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Computer experience working with MS Office, internet/e-mail
- Experience with measurement instruments like FDCRS & accreditation

6. The Child Care Specialist leads infant and toddler program operations, curriculum coordination, licensing compliance, and developmental support services, ensuring safe, developmentally appropriate care while supporting children, teen parents, and staff through collaborative early childhood programming.
Child Care Specialist Roles:
- Assume daily responsibility for the coordination, programming curriculum development and management of the Parent Infant Interaction Program
- Partner with SLPS PAT program to coordinate and monitor the administration of the ASQ-3/ASQ-SE for infants/toddlers
- Maintain the Missouri Child Care State license and the Board of Public Service/City license for the PIIP by working with the Division of Family Services and a St. Louis City Licensing Representative

Child Care Specialist Experience and Qualifications:
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written or oral form

- Minimum of three years' supervisory experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education OR related field with a minimum of 12 child-related college credits (required)

Childcare Worker Functions:
