13. Category Analyst (Retail Pricing & Promotional Analytics)
Embedded within the category leadership team, the Category Analyst produces pricing strategy analysis, promotional tracking, and margin management tools that convert financial targets and competitive data into actionable reports for retail markets and categories. Working closely with merchandising, IS, and department management, the Category Analyst develops forecasting tools, maintains weekly and trimester scorecards, and oversees ad entries and vendor promotion approvals to keep category performance on plan.
Scope of Work
- Provide business, customer insights, and competitor intelligence to support the development of category strategies, forecasts, and performance reporting.
- Identify and validate opportunities within a given category, market, or division using category roles, competitive pricing, frequency reports, elasticity reports, market data, and other sources.
- Provide analytical and quantitative secondary research support to the business by accessing, verifying, and organizing market trend, competitive intelligence, and sales data using a variety of sources.
