Sitting at the intersection of platform architecture and customer experience, the Backend Engineer coordinates solutions across engineering, product, and operations teams to upgrade and scale a distributed platform serving customers, service providers, property staff, and internal users. Operating across a wide variety of environments from serverless to containerized infrastructure, the Backend Engineer guides architectural decisions, code reviews, and refactoring to ensure high-quality outcomes for every audience the platform serves.

Performance Expectations

• Propose solutions and drive consensus across engineering, product, and operations teams to deliver the best customer outcomes.
• Facilitate platform decision-making and mentor team members on building high-quality software.
• Build software and systems serving customers, service providers, and internal teams including operations, customer success, and analytics.
• Deploy code across a wide variety of environments serving internal and external needs.
• Contribute to architecture advocacy, code reviews, refactoring, and documentation of systems and decisions.

Background & Experience

• 5+ years of experience building customer-facing applications.
• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, and event-driven or serverless architecture.
• Experience migrating from monolithic to microservice architecture at scale.
• Familiarity with container and cluster technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker, and comfort in the AWS ecosystem.
• Experience with Terraform or Terragrunt and demonstrable open source contributions a plus.
• Comfortable working in agile and Scrum environments and a strong focus on testing, quality, and scalability.

Qualifications & Experience

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in a technical field.
• 3 to 5 years of software development experience including APIs, web services, and web applications.
• Broad experience with Java, RESTful API strategy, development, and management, and microservices concepts, including authentication, logging, and observability.
• Strong knowledge of AWS, including AWS Connect and IVR solution design, implementation, and maintenance.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, CI/CD tooling, Git branching strategies, code analysis tools such as Checkstyle and PMD, SCA dependency checks, and Bash scripting.
• Ability to support, monitor, and deliver complex technology programs in agile environments and promote agile best practices.
